Django Mombasa is a community focused on learning, collaboration, and knowledge sharing around Python and the Django web framework.

We respect participant privacy and collect only the minimum personal data necessary to understand and improve our community programs.

All data collected is used strictly for community analysis and program improvement. We do not use participant data for marketing, advertising, or promotional messaging.

This policy follows the principles of the Kenya Data Protection Act, 2019.

Data is processed based on voluntary participation and legitimate community interest, limited to organizing and improving community activities.

When you register for a Django Mombasa event or program, we collect the following information:

  • Gender (required)

  • Year of Birth (optional)

  • Experience Level (required)

  • Primary Language (required)

We intentionally do not collect sensitive personal information such as identification numbers, home addresses, financial details, or employment records.

Your data is used only to help us understand and improve the community. Specifically, we use it for:

  • Understanding skill level distribution (beginner, intermediate, advanced)

  • Planning workshops and learning tracks based on participant needs

  • Improving the quality of events, mentorship, and learning experiences

We do not:

Participants may optionally receive:

These messages are informational and community-related only. They are not marketing communications. You may opt out at any time by replying to the email or contacting the organizers.


5. Data Sharing

We never publish or share personally identifiable information.

We may share anonymized aggregated statistics such as:

  • Percentage of participants by experience level

  • Gender representation

  • Common primary languages

These reports contain no information that can identify an individual.


6. Storage & Security

We protect participant data using reasonable technical and organizational safeguards, including:

  • Access limited to designated organizers only

Only organizers responsible for planning, operations, and analysis can access the data.

We retain identifiable data only as long as necessary:

  • Community statistics: anonymized and retained for long-term trend analysis

  • Personally identifiable information: deleted when no longer required

Participants may request deletion at any time.
